About
Brown and proud, born in Los Angeles and now creating in Utah, Zay Angel Alvarez is a multi-talented artist, activist, and community leader whose work spans film, radio, television, photography, and event production. With a deep commitment to storytelling and amplifying voices, Zay has built a career that intertwines creativity and activism at every turn.Zay’s creative background includes producing and collaborating on projects for KRCL and Salt Lake Community College, hosting the radio show In the Zoo with Zayzooka, and working in film and television alongside Oscar-nominated and Oscar-winning individuals, as well as multi-platinum selling, Grammy-winning artists. He is also known for curating large-scale events like the UPROAR Concert Series, Revolution Concerts, and the DBK collective, a group he helped found that champions community, creativity, and social engagement.An activist at heart, Zay has led and organized movements that have made a tangible impact, including helping reinstate Kimball Young to his position through community advocacy and organizing, and participating in the nationally recognized Jason Chaffetz Town Hall.Photography is another lens through which Zay captures the world—whether working with children, youth in foster care, or documenting communities and events. Across every project, his work is rooted in community connection, social consciousness, and empowerment.
Balancing multiple roles—mentor, student, sibling, family man, performer, and event producer—Zay thrives in the space where creativity meets action.
